Churchville Nature Center
Acorn Processing Workshop
Come learn an age old craft
January 12, 2020, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Native people in our area had a wide variety of nuts available. Chestnut, walnut, hickory, beech, and hazel were easy to gather and enjoy. Acorns were also abundant. These “oak nuts” are nutritious, but contain high amounts of tannins and require special preparation to make them edible. Although they were enjoyed here, acorns were a staple food of many California tribes where other nuts were less available. Join CNC educator Chris Applegate to learn traditional and modern methods to process and use them.
Time: 2 to 4 pm Cost: $8 per person
