Volunteers Needed to Help Plan New Outdoor Play Area
Playscapes Outdoor Natural Play Area
An exciting plan is underway to design and build a natural play area for children ages 2 - 12. This area is not a typical playground with swings, slides and monkey bars, but rather an area in which the children can run, climb, and explore in a safe outdoor natural area.
We are looking for a few creative people to help design then create this play area.
I have included a link to a website I wish for you to see so you can get an idea of what we have in mind. See how wonderful these play areas can be. We want to create this area where all children can come to play, included children with special needs.
We want to excite the sense and the sense of wonder in our children who visit.
Sensory Surfaces
Smells - lots of herbs and scent plants throughout area
Sounds - chimes and drums and other wooden musical instruments
Touch - A variety of surfaces and playing materials: sand, woodchips, stone. Incorporate water as a playing medium
Sight - Flowers, bird feeder, houses
Taste - That is yet to be explored
Exploration
Hidden secret spots in bushes and vine paths, caves and tunnels
Digging, gardening
Sunflower mazes
Tree house
Climbing hills
A stage for shows
Sand play area with flowing water for building and creating dams, stream, puddles
A forest area with trees for imaginary play
An art wall for chalk drawings
Benches and table for sculpturing and art or to sit with friends
These are just some of the ideas. Anything is possible. If you would like to be part of this project and volunteer for any aspects of the plan: designing, fundraising, or construction, please call Peg Mongillo @ 215-357-4005 ext 14 to help get this project started.
